Load tests were performed on a dredging ship named the Mecca at Mitsubishi Heavy Industry's shipyard in Kobe, Japan, a project initiated through our agent in Japan, Harris Pye.
Crestchic AP was called upon to carry out loadbank tests on generators rated at 700V, 50Hz, an uncommon voltage. Generally, this situation would have posed difficulties as our loadbanks are rated at a maximum voltage of 480V, 60Hz. However, our 20 years of experience in applying transformers helped us meet this challenge.
Our transformers are flexible enough to step down source voltages between 600V and 24,000V to the 380V - 480V range so that our loadbanks can accept the test voltage.
Thus Crestchic AP provided a loadbank package that consisted of 2 units of LB3300 and 2 units of 3000kVA multi-tap transformers with connecting power cables. The transformers allowed us to step down the 700V source supply to a manageable 415V test input. Our engineer was stationed on site to supervise the setup, operation of the load bank as well as the removal.
The solution was delivered in May 2004 to the satisfaction of our customer.
Our international jobs include load test work
- for the Telfer Power Plant in Australia
- on the Pride Pennsylvania rig for Pride International in Goa, India
